Recycled Paper Heart Garland

I have so many university prospectuses that I thought there must be something creative I can do with them. I looked online and saw paper heart garlands among bowls, coasters and lots of other things. I thought the heart garland looked the best and I had a perfect space to hang it.

I made it by cutting strips of paper around 1 inch wide and then hole punching at four different point along the paper. Then, before I strung it on the string I stapled the ends and folded the middle to make sure the heart kept its shape.

Everything I used except the staples were recycled so this was quite an eco-project. Thank you for reading. x

Back To School/College outfit

Here I've come up with a simple back to school outfit. I've used clothes which I perhaps don't wear very often and have come up with a 'new' way to wear them together. I have layered a pin stripe 'summer' shirt (not too thick otherwise I'd get too hot) underneath a burgundy topshop skater dress. I finished it off with a belt and my favorite shoes and then maybe a navy cardigan dependent on the weather.

Where is everything from?

Tempting Television

Here are my favorite TV shows and my thoughts on them:

Game of Thrones

I watched game of thrones seasons 1 and 2 in around May. I fell in love with it after the first few episodes and Khaleesi quickly became my favorite character. I love her strength and passion and her ability to get what she wants. I also love her Dragons!!

This is one of those shows I just watch because, it's there. It's interesting but, could be better. I think it's something to do with the main character being the same age so whatever she's 'going through' just doesn't seem very exciting.

Big Bang Theory

This has got to be one of my favorite comedies. I'm a bit of a science nerd so, having that mixed with characters that are hilarious makes it VERY funny. My favourite characters are Sheldon and Leonard. I love  Sheldon's craziness and the way Leonard tries to deal with it.

New Girl

To be honest the only reason I watch it is because of Zoey. I love her as an actor because she's so excentric and crazy but, in a very down to earth way.

Pretty Little Liars

I've liked this show for a few years. Originally, Spencer's wardrobe was my main reason for watching it but, as the show has progressed I began to love the mystery and problems the girls and the other characters have managed to get themselves into. There is always something dramatic going on and that is what has kept me watching it. Well, that and the fact I want to know who killed Alison or whether she's still alive.

Melissa and Joey

I love watching this show. It's something to do with the cheesiness and the fact that there are characters of all different ages and going through different things. And, you just know that Mel and Joey need to be together.

Teen Wolf

I haven't seen the most recent season but, the first two I quite liked. I liked them because I loved the original 80s film and this adaptation takes it to a whole new level. I also like that it isn't all girls and love but it is encorperated with the relationships between Alison and Scott.

The Morganville Vampires (Web show)

You can find out more information here:
Not a TV show, but I have to say I've managed to read all these books and for some reason I loved them. I can't wait to see how the web show turns out and I am VERY excited.

Outfit Of The Day: DIY Crop Top

Today, I DIY-ed this crop top. I cut out the neck and sleeves and chopped off the bottom. Then I pinched the arm holes together and sewed some of the waste fabric to hold it together and voila. Underneath I'm wearing a Topshop bralet and then an Asos skater skirt.
My necklace was a gift and I've just left my hair down.

Then of course, on my feet, are some grey converse.

When I go out I will probably just throw on a grey hoody (Topshop) and take my usual slouch backpack from FatFace.

Wardrobe Fundamentals: My clothing essentials for the autumn

(Please click on pictures for links to sites)

Plain White Tee

My favorite is a plain white V-neck. It can be worn with scarfs, necklaces, with shorts legging skirts etc. It's very versatile and perfect for toning down bold prints.

This tee is from River Island and costs £12.00

Dark Denim Jeans (in your favorite cut)

Personally, my favorite are super skinny. Dark wash jeans are perfect because they can be made more formal and be worn casually.

These skinny dark wash jeans are from Hollister and cost £54.

Little Black Dress

Perfect for formal occasions or more casual if paired with bright colours. You can change styles every now again but the general idea is timeless. Perfect in form fitting, once you've found the perfect one you have it for life.

Topshop - £46

Knit Cardigan

A patterned one is perfect for autumn 2013, but a plain chunky knit one is timeless. - £18

A Jacket

A nice fitting jacket in a neutral tone is perfect to throw on over any outfit. I like ones with a bit of detail.

I love the detail on this jacket from Forever 21 for £29.75

Shopping Trip: My picks

I went shopping but, as usual I had no money. Instead I used my phone to snap some pictures of things i liked to use as inspiration in the future or to make things if I get my hands on some fabrics.
I won't post prices or links because I didn't actually find them online and I didn't look at prices just the clothes themselves. But, the shops I mention are: 'Hollister', 'H&M', 'River Island' and 'Topshop'.

These skirts I found in 'Hollister' and 'H&M'. I love the detail on both! I love mini skirts, I like tucking baggy tops into them and wearing plain ones with more detailed tops and visa versa.

These two outfits are from the 'Topshop' fitting room. The one on the left has an 'H&M' skirt but, other then that the rest of the clothes were from 'Topshop'. I loved the high-waist pin stripe jeans, they were extremely comfortable and quite flattering (not so much from that angle though.)

I loved the detail on the back of these two 'H&M' dresses, I also love the fabric of the play suit on the right.

It's such a shame and probably a good thing I had no money, otherwise my wardrobe would be overflowing. Thanks for reading.

Nijmegen Marches 2012 'De 4 daagse'

I swear whilst I was walking it didn't feel
like there were this many people around me
Almost a year ago, I embarked on my training to prepare myself for the Nijmegen marches. I did the marches with a team from my school. For the training we did several 25 mile walks and one 50 mile walk, over two days.
Before actually travelling to Holland I was petrified. The thought of having to walk when I know I would be in pain, scared me a lot! But now, I have no regrets. I completed the marches and have no permanent injuries and for that I am proud.

I am also amazed that I managed to get through not only my own negative emotions but also those of the people around me. To get through the day I would just shout and wave at the people at the side of road. Oh, and the SWEETS! Little children handing out sugary snacks really helped me keep my head.

One of the most memorable parts of the walk was when my team and another one joined together at a rest stop, to show off our dancing to 'Follow the leader' and the 'Macarena.' The reason it was so memorable was; before the dancing everyone was so down from the rain and soaked so, the dancing improved every-body's mood and helped us keep going.

I am proud of my whole team and anyone else who completed the four days.

DIY: Mouse Shoes (Marc Jacobs)

I had some old shoes that needed spicing up so I decided to use the 'Marc by Marc Jacobs' classic shoes as inspiration. I love these shoes and think they are soo very cute!
Here is my take: not as nice but they will do till I can afford the Marc by Marc Jacobs ones.
Here's how I did it:

I started off by removing the bow from my pumps using a seam ripper. Then I drew on the eyes using sharpie, glues on the nose (using super glue) and sewed on the ears. With the ears I pinched them in the middle to give them some shape. I then drew on some whiskers and I was done. Using buttons as eyes probably would look better (I have a fear of buttons that aren't being used as fastenings, DON'T JUDGE!)

'Boho' Summer Style Finds

Kimono: At last! I found a gorgeous kimono style top at 'TKMaxx'. It's by monsoon and was a steal at £7.99. It's a cotton/silk blend and has a pastel butterfly design.

In this outfit I have paired the kimono with a plain grey V-neck t-shirt from 'Forever 21', some dark rinse, denim shorts and several necklaces layered on top of one another.

Dress: I also got this maxi dress from 'TKMaxx', it cost £12.99 and has a really nice monochrome tie-dye effect.

Sleeping Under the Stars: Galaxy Duvet

I love anything galaxy print and DIY-ing a whole duvet would have been very time consuming! So, when I saw an Outer-space duvet set at Tesco, I had to have it!

'Boho' Hair wrap/Braid

I love dreadlocks and hair braids so, when I was bored I decided to give myself one. I used embroidery thread in earthy colours and knotted them at the top around a section of hair. Then I just wrapped the thread around  and when I decided to change colour I would wrap in the opposite direction to make it secure. Near to the bottom I just knotted it and left the ends to merge with my hair.

ASOS: Kimonos

After searching, I found several kimonos on the website. Many of them are by the brand 'Band of Gypsies' and they come in a variety of patterns. They all seem to drape really nicely and I am definitely considering buying one of them,(despite them being overpriced at £36) unless I find some really nice fabric in the coming week.

On the hunt: Boho 'Draped' Jacket

Whilst looking at 'Bohemian' inspiration a key part of the look was the 'draped' jacket  (or Kimono). So, now I'm either on the hunt for that perfect jacket or the perfect fabric to make my own.

If I decide to make one myself, I'm thinking of using either: a chiffon (or other polyester type fabric) or black satin which, I would then add gold oriental detail onto by applique or fabric paint. The pattern will be fairly easy to make myself, because the jacket does not require any sort of shape or tailoring.

My inspiration for the black satin one definitely came from Taylor Swift's outfit transformation at the Brit Awards. I love the gold detail and could imagine it working really well on a jacket. This also fits in with the oriental idea which is being carried on into the summer trends.

Summer 2013 Wardrobe

It's still below 5 degrees but, all I can think of is the warmer weather hopefully headed my way. Of course with that comes the Spring/Summer 2013 fashion. On this seasons list of trends are: oriental prints, white blazers, crisp white shirts, pinafore dresses and brush stroke patterns/prints. Also carrying on from the winter we have leather skirts and capes.

Who ever pays attention to what's on trend, hey?

I'm pretty sure that my wardrobe will have a relaxed Bohemia vibe, perfect for lazing around and going to college in.

Some inspiration I have found:

Mint green, ice-cream pastels, earth tones and brights are all key colours this season to watch out for.

With all that in mind the the pieces I am looking for are: denim shorts

Baggy/over sized T-shirts and vest tops in key colours:

Draped dresses:

Right :

Ankle boots, bracelets and rolled up socks.
